Maypole Youth Centre’s garden makeover

Every week, the Maypole Centre in Druids Heath welcomes local young people through its doors, providing a safe space to connect, develop skills and have fun.

It’s an integral part of the Druids Heath community, especially over the busy summer months, which is why Lovell were keen to help the centre with some much-needed renovations.

In July, Lovell’s team worked alongside Fenwood Fencing to restore the youth centers community garden and tidy up outside spaces. Overgrown hedges, weeds, tired-looking planters and old gym equipment meant the space wasn’t somewhere young people wanted to spend much time… despite the warm weather!

Before, the garden felt tired and in need of some care and attention

It took three days of teamwork to tidy the space and install a brand-new seating area with two new picnic tables, giving the garden a new lease of life. The weeds and ivy are gone, planters replaced and the playground restored, creating outdoor areas to be proud of and enjoyed.

Simon Wingate, Project Director at Lovell said:

"It's been fantastic to work alongside the Maypole Youth Centre and to help transform their garden for everyone to enjoy. The centre is a vital hub for young people and we are delighted to deliver improvements to key outside spaces which will encourage visitors to spend time there, develop friendships and key skills."

Celebrating and strengthening existing community spaces in Druids Heath is a key part of the regeneration project. The team are looking forward to working alongside more local groups in the near future.
